Roaming Service

International Roaming allows you to use your mobile number to make and receive calls, send SMS and use data service in the visited countries.

Our roaming services are available in 200 countries and 400 mobile networks.

 

Frequently Asked Questions about International Roaming

  1. How do I subscribe to roaming service?

Roaming service is automatically activated. You do not need to subscribe.

  1. What do l do before l leave Ghana?

To ensure roaming is seamless, we advise to top up with sufficient airtime before you leave the country. You can also buy roaming bundle before leaving the country via Telecel Play or by dialling *150# (prepaid) or *5959# (postpaid)

  1. How can I ensure that I am connected to a network when outside Ghana?

When you arrive at your destination, your mobile phone will search for the strongest signal in that area and connect to it automatically. However, in cases where you are not automatically connected to the network, you could do a manual selection of the network on your mobile phone by following the step below:

For Android Users:
Go to the Settings menu on your phone
Choose Connections
Choose Mobile Network.
Select available network.

For iOS Users
Go to settings on your phone.
Choose Carrier
Unselect Automatic.
Choose from the available networks

  1. How do I know if my phone has attached to a network?

Your phone will display name of a network in the visited destination if it has attached to a network. The display will vary from phone to phone.

  1. I have subscribed to the roaming service. Why can’t I make outgoing calls?

While outside Ghana be sure to make all calls using the international format (+, country code, number). For example, to place a call back to Ghana, replace the leading 0 with +233 (+233 xxx xxxx).

  1. What steps should I take if my data service is not working?

Data service is disabled by default on your mobile device while outside Ghana. To enable data roaming service. Please follow the steps below:

For Android Users:
Go to the Settings menu on your phone
Choose Connections
Choose Mobile Network.
Set Data Roaming toggle to on.

For iOS Users
Go to settings on your phone.
Choose Mobile Service
Choose Mobile Data Options
Set Data Roaming toggle to “on”.

  1. How do I avoid bill shock while using data roaming service?

Please buy a bundle on Telecel Play. Be sure to check the eligible countries. You can also buy by dialling *150# if you are a prepaid subscriber or *5959# if you are a postpaid subscriber.

  1. How can I check roaming bundle balance?

For Prepaid dial *126#, for Postpaid & Hybrid dial *5959#.

  1. Can I purchase roaming bundles whilst abroad?

Roaming bundles can be purchased before travelling or whilst abroad.

  1. Can I use roaming bundle in Ghana?

No. Roaming bundles can only be used whilst abroad.

  1. What will happen if my balance is too low to make/receive a call?

If your balance is below the required amount for making a call, the call will not go through, once you top-up again, you will regain the services of your phone. If someone tries to call you while your balance is too low, the call will not be connected.
