SafeNet Insurance Terms & Conditions

  1. General Product Information
  • SafeNet is an initiative by Telecel Ghana, working with MicroEnsure, Enterprise Life and Prudential Life to provide insurance cover to Telecel subscribers.
  • SafeNet offers an initial 6-month period of Free Insurance cover for hospitalization, life and accidental permanent disability to all subscribers who activate the product during any promotional period.
  • After the 6-month period, SafeNet offers a Paid Insurance (GSM & Telecel Cash) cover for hospitalization, life and accidental permanent disability to all subscribers and one family member who activate the product.
  • Subscribers can sign up for the product by dialling *592# to activate on USSD or by sending “Yes” to SMS short code 592 (in the case of Free) or by calling 592 to speak to an Agent.
  • The amount of cover you earn in any given month is based on your airtime recharge in the immediate past month for the Free cover and successful premium collected from your airtime wallet in the immediate past month for the Paid cover (ref: cover tables below).
  • A subscriber needs to be at least 18years and at most 75years to be eligible for the product. Family member age is between 1 and 75 years.
  • All policies are renewed monthly upon premium payment unless cancelled by the subscriber.
  • Hospital Cash cover can be claimed up to a maximum of 2 times during the Free insurance period, however only one claim is admissible per month.
  • In the case of the Paid cover, Hospital Cash is exhausted once the stated limit and/or the number of nights per year is claimed.
  • The total number of nights stated remain the maximum number of nights available between Subscriber and chosen Family member and this shall be available to both in no specific order or proportion

  1. Cover
  • Free Product: Your benefit amount is based on your Airtime top up/recharge for the previous month as shown in plans in table above.
  • Paid Product: Your benefit amount is based on your Tier/Premium for the previous month as shown in plans in table above.
  1. Premium
  • Free Product: There is no premium payable. The product is Free to the Customer
  • Paid Product: Premium is payable every month.
  1. Term of Assurance

Monthly cover.

  1. Eligibility
  • Telecel Subscriber who is aged: 18 – 75 years (inclusive) and Family member who is aged: 1-75 years (inclusive)
  • The registered name for insurance shall be the registered owner of the Telecel SIM Card /Number
  1. Waiting Period
  • 1 month Waiting Period for all events except for events arising as a result of an accident.
  • Your Waiting Period begins from your first cover month after successful payment of premium.
  1. Changes that are Subject to Waiting Periods
  • 1 month Waiting Period shall apply for a newly registered family member. Cover shall become active 1-month after receipt of the request by the insurers. Claims within the waiting period for the renewed family member will not be covered.
  • There shall be a 1-month waiting period for any change to increase the cover provided under the policy. If a claim arises within the waiting period, the previous level of cover before such change was made shall be the basis for a claim payment.
  • If a subscriber wishes to change from one product to another (i.e. from GSM to V-Cash or vice versa), a 1-month waiting period shall apply. Should a claim arise prior to the waiting period, the previous cover will be paid.
  1. Insufficient Payment
  • If a subscriber makes payment each month which are insufficient to provide the subscriber’s chosen tier of cover, a lower tier of cover for which the payment amount is successful shall be given as cover.
  • If the successful payment are insufficient for any cover insured then their premiums will be accumulated and carried over until they have paid enough premium to earn cover for the following month.
  • If a subscriber has not earned up to their chosen tier for a continuous period of 3 months, a 1 month waiting period shall apply when the subscriber resumes full payment of premiums for their chosen tier of cover. During the waiting period, the tier of cover earned prior to resuming full payment shall be used for the basis of any claim payment.
  1. Policy lapse

A one – month waiting period shall apply for a policy that elapses for 3 months or more before such policy is reactivated. No claims shall be payable until expiry of such waiting period.

  • 12 months to present all claim documents from the date the incident occurs

  1. Personal Data/Data Protection

By subscribing to SafeNet, Subscribers and Family member agree for their personal data to be shared with MicroEnsure, Enterprise Life and Prudential Life for the sole purpose of administering your insurance cover

  1. Cancellations
  • The insured may nominate to cancel their insurance cover at any time by calling 592 or via USSD
  • If cancelled prior to the expiration of the Free cover period you will not be able to come back on the Free Insurance Product.
  1. Exclusions

Death, Accidental Permanent Disability or Hospitalization that arises as a result of Abuse of drugs/alcohol, attempted suicide, suicide, participation in criminal activity.

  1. Double Insurance
  • No one subscriber shall be covered more than once on multiple numbers. Only one subscription shall be acknowledged per person.
  • If a customer should have both a Free and a Paid product, the Insurers shall only be liable to provide the cover under the Paid product. If customer was found to have no paid cover then basis for claim payment shall be customer’s free cover.
